Who Will Natalie Wear To The Oscars?

Everyone is dying to see what Natalie Portman will wear to the award shows this season, since she will be nominated for Black Swan, she’s engaged to the film’s choreographer, Benjamin Millepied, and she’s pregs. She’s basically the most talked about star on the planet right now. There has been a lot of talk that Natalie will wear Rodarte to the Oscars, but the New York Times is saying Dior, which comes straight from her stylist Kate Young, who has helped dress Natalie for the last eight years. “Dior has the Black Swan star in its pocket because of a beauty contract the company made with her last year,” according to the article.

Also noted in the piece, Natalie is “not that into fashion”, according to Kate. She says her conversation with Natalie begin with a discussion of a character or image Natalie finds inspiring.

For the premiere of Black Swan, it was Jacques Henri Lartigue’s mistress, presumably the beauty Renée Perle, which is where the inspiration for that much buzzed about deep red lipstick came from.

Natalie’s stylist also says she’s unsure if Natalie will wear Dior exclusively for all the shows, since she’s also a big fan of Rodarte and Lanvin. Natalie wore a deep blue Jason Wu dress to the People’s Choice Awards and a cocktail dress by Vionnet to the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards.

I loved the low bun Natalie paired with her very ladylike Vionnet dress. It’s so wearable and a nice update from your basic ponytail. The Girls In The Beauty Dept. have a how-to, so you can try this look at home.

Natalie’s Ladylike Low Bun:

  1. Make a deep side part.
  2. Smooth your hair back and gather it as if you’re going to make a low pony, only take a second to pull out a small section of hair on the underside.
  3. Leave that section free and pretend you’re putting the rest of your hair in a pony, only stop when the tail is looped over itself (don’t pull the tail all the way through).
  4. Wind that loose section of hair up and around the elastic to cover it; tuck the ends underneath and secure out of sight with a bobby pin or two.
  5. Smooth on some styling cream or pomade to keep flyaways down and mist with hairspray for staying power.

What do you think of Natalie’s recent red carpet looks? And what designer do you think she should wear to the Oscars?
