Dita Von Teese told Vogue that her glamorous vintage look is no more high maintenance than other women’s supposed low-key “effortless” looks. “I have a lot of friends that have a very natural look and it takes just as long,” Dita says. “They straighten their hair, wear all that bronzer and beige lipstick and apply 50 coats of mascara to make themselves look natural. I’m doing the same thing just with different colors. I set my hair which is actually quicker than a blow dry. I get ready just as quick as any other woman I know.”
cool. i guess i can believe that.
Jamie: I have a feeling Dita has her whole look down to a very exact science. 😉
I actually believe this. When my hair was long I used to roller set it quite often, and it was a lot easier/quicker than blowing it out – mostly because you can do a lot of other things while the rollers are working their magic (like sleep). I go for a mostly-natural look with my makeup most days, but I could certainly do a look like Dita’s in about the same amount of time. Maybe this is the genius of Dita’s look – looks high maintenance, but really isn’t (comparatively).
Groovymarlin: I thought this was an interesting quote. And it’s true that a lot of the supposedly ‘natural’ looks actually take a lot of work. At least the ones done by celebs! When I go natural it really means nothing–no makeup and nothing done to my hair. 🙂 But if I was a celeb, I would be afraid to leave the house like that because you know the paps would be waiting to get a photo of you looking all crazy. 😉

I totally believe her. The natural look a la jennifer lopez takes a lot of work too.
