Have any of you tried the Remington Frizz Therapy Iron? I’d read rave reviews online and was super curious to check it out… It’s also one of Good Housekeeping Research Institute’s V.I.P. (Very Innovative Product) Award winners (the only beauty product of the bunch) – and was recently featured in the New York Daily News as one of the “9 Smartest Buys in 2010″. The kicker? It’s only $50.00. And if you know anything about flat irons, you know that’s practically $free.99. Flat irons can easily run upwards of $200.00. When I tried the Remington Frizz Therapy Iron, I was somewhat sceptical that a drugstore flat iron could work as well as a more expensive iron. (I know, I know. What a snob.)
Here’s My Take: I plugged in the simple, smallish iron and set the temperature to the lowest setting, 300 degrees. It has a lcd display and beeps when heated up, which happened super fast. I flat ironed my bangs in literally 30 seconds. And here’s the best part: No snagging! My SEDU snags like crazy, and I always feel like I’m damaging my hair. The Remington straightened my bangs quickly and not in that weird I-just-straighted-my-hair way. They looked glossy and natural. Since I’ve been wearing my layered cut wavy lately, I decided to put some waves into my hair with the iron–something I struggle to do with other flat irons. But curling with the Remington Iron was very simple because of its smaller size. My waves came out beautifully. I turned the heat up a little bit higher to do the waves, took sections of my hair and ran then though the iron as I twisted/curled it, dropped the hair, and then twisted it in the direction of the curl with my finger. It makes nice, casual, beachy looking waves if you do it on a low heat or serious curls on a higher heat setting. Very happy with the outcome.
The only issue I had when curling my hair with the iron was that I kept changing the temperature accidentally, but then I read that you can lock in your temperature by pressing and holding “-” button for three seconds. To unlock, press and hold the “-” button for another three seconds. Problem solved! I also read that some people had issues with the off button, but you just need to hold it down for a few seconds.
I highly recommend the Remington Frizz Therapy Iron if you’re in the market for a new flat iron! It’s available at Target, Amazon.com and other retailers. Price: $50.00.
